Community Inn

Homes of Hope had many homeless folks coming to the office during the first two years needing immediate housing.  They were not serious candidates for a six month program, but just needed some place to sleep for a few nights until they were able to make other arrangements.  Because of this apparent need, the Board of Directors began exploring the possibility of establishing an emergency housing facility in Stanly County.  Stanly Community Christian Ministry offered the unoccupied half of the Community Table building to house a new program.  In the meantime, the Stanly Baptist Association, led by Carl Helms and Hal Bilbo, were also seeking ways to assist the homeless and joined the efforts of Homes of Hope. With the help of Bob Odom, a change in the zoning ordinance was obtained so that work could begin on the required building code upgrades.  On September 8th, the Community Inn opened it doors.

Chris Story was hired as the Director and many churches, civic groups and individuals signed up to volunteer to help.  Volunteer are needed to provide an evening meal, intake assistance, visiting with guests and spending the night.  If you or your group would like to volunteer, contact Homes of Hope for some training options. The links to the calendar are on the right.

On the Volunteer Calendar, areas where volunteers are needed are listed each day. If one of the areas is not listed, someone has already volunteered for that slot. It is easier to view the calendar if you click the “Agenda” button in the upper right corner of the calendar. When you determine which day(s) you would like to volunteer, e-mail Homes of Hope at hope747@ctc.net and you will be added to the calendar. If you need to check when you volunteered, click on the Community Inn Calendar button.
